Yangon, July 25 -- Following one hour and ten minutes long talks between leader of the democratic opposition Aung San Suu Kyi and Representative of Thein Sein government Union Minister for Labour Aung Kyi at the Green Bank State Guest House beside the Inya Lake in Yangon this afternoon, Minister Aung Kyi announced that this talks represented the first step towards matters of cooperation and those of carrying out future tasks.
This announcement, which has all the characteristics of the beginning of the breakthrough between democratic opposition and the new government, was emphatically made by Minister Aung Kyi to the awaiting newsmen, who had been awaiting within the compound of the State guest house since the start of the talks.
Speaking on her behalf to the newsmen, Aung San Suu Kyi said: “As for me, I always look forward to the interests of the country and the equality of the people. I do hope that this talks will benefit the country.”
Aung Kyi is not a stranger to Aung San Suu Kyi. While serving as Minister for Labour under SPDC government, Aung Kyi was concurrently assigned as Minister for Relations between the military junta and Aung San Suu Kyi.
In this capacity Aung Kyi had held talks with Aung San Suu Kyi for nine times during the time of the military junta. His last talks with Aung San Suu Kyi was late in 2009.
This afternoon after the talks, Minister Aung Kyi himself read out the official news statement on the talks with Aung San Suu Kyi as follows:-
“At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has come to Green Bank State Guest House this afternoon and held official talks with Union Minister U Aung Kyi from 1 pm to 2:10 pm this afternoon.
“Both sides looked upon this meeting as positive one and as such both sides were satisfied with the results.
“Both sides discussed possible areas where they could cooperate for the good of the people.
“In discussing as such, matters concerning rule of law, eradication of misunderstanding and other matters for the good of the people were included.
“Both side agreed to meet again at an appropriate time.”
